The first details regarding The Flash season 6 villain have reportedly been revealed. The Scarlet Speedster just concluded his fifth season, which featured a tease for this fall’s Crisis on Infinite Earths crossover event.
Each season of The Flash typically revolved around a conflict against a central antagonist. In season 1, Eobard Thawne aka. Reverse Flash was introduced, and quickly became one of the biggest villains of the Arrowverse. The Flash season 2 featured Hunter Zolomon aka. Zoom. That season also introduced the concept of alternate Earths, one of which Zoom hailed from. Season 3 had arguably the most emotional conflict since the antagonist was Savitar, who was revealed to be Barry Allen from the future. Season 4 took a break from speedsters and introduced Clifford DeVoe/The Thinker. Most recently, a man known as Cicada was the antagonist for half of season 5. In a twist, his niece from the future later killed him, and assumed the role of the season’s villain. Of course, the Cicada storyline was really just a stepping stone for the return of Thawne, who looks to play a big part in Crisis on Infinite Earths.
The major villain of The Flash season 6 will be male according to TVLine, and the publication reports there are rumors that the show’s producers are looking at diverse actors for the role. Unfortunately, nothing else was reported regarding the identity of this antagonist.
Could The Flash have already teased this new villain? In the season 5 episode, “Memorabilia,” the Red Death was name-dropped. Some fans may take this as an Easter egg, but the show is no stranger to teasing future villains. In season 3, DeVoe was name-dropped twice. Then DeVoe ended up being the villain in season 4. Interestingly, the Red Death is actually an alternate Batman who became an evil speedster. If the Red Death is indeed the antagonist of season 6, it will be interesting to see how the show will adapt him.
Many of the CW superhero shows will be crossing over during Crisis on Infinite Earths, so it’s not known if this new antagonist will be involved, or appear after the event has concluded. There are a lot of questions regarding the crossover event. Thawne will play a part, perhaps as the central villain, and it’s largely possible that Oliver Queen will die to save the multiverse. As the months pass and the fall comes closer, expect more updates on Crisis on Infinite Earths, and The Flash season 6.
