What is a Margarita?

A Margarita is simply a cocktail containing some tequila, orange booze, and lime juice. It is usually served with ice and salt on the top of the cocktail glass. There is nothing more fulfilling than sipping your margarita while relaxing with friends and family. But what is it about the margarita that makes it so revered? Must be something about its taste and origin. We will get into it in a moment. First, Let’s talk about the Flybird brand.

What is it about the Flybird Brand?

The ultimate goal of the Flybird brand is to present its new 100% percent Mexican agave wine as a convenient alternative to traditional margaritas since all you have to do is twist open the bottle, and pour it into a glass of ice, sip, and enjoy. Thus, can be served on different occasions, Taco Tuesday, Friday Backyard BBQ, while watching your favorite sport, or simply having a sun bath all by yourself. All flavors are available in several online stores from $9.95 – $13.95.

The Origin of the Margarita Wine

The main ingredient in Margaritas is the agave wine which was first exploited by the Spanish colonist when they invaded South America. The first distillery later known as Tequila, Jalisco was started by Don Pedro Sánchez de Tagle in the early 1600s. Following what is presumed a boom from the success of Tequila, The Mexican government in the year 1974 under the leadership of Luis Echeverría declared Tequila an intellectual property of Mexico. Thereby, limiting its production to five Mexican states namely Jalisco, Nayarit, Guanajuato, Michoacán, and Tamaulipas. Today, tequila has become a proud heritage of the Mexican people.

How is the Flybird Margarita wine made?

It is not strange at all to say very much about tequila when discussing Margaritas. This is because they are made out of the same agave plant and through very similar same processes. In the manufacture of tequila, the process is grouped into six;

Harvest the agaveBake the agave coreExtract the agave juiceFerment the juice Distill the fermented juiceAge the tequila

However, Flybird Margarita wine does not go into the distillation and aging processes. Well, the ingredients include the agave plant, lime juice, dried orange, cane sugar, and water. The process is described as follows:

Harvesting the agave: a special tool called a coa is used to cut the leaves of the blue agave plant away to expose the underground pina bulb. Baking the pina: the pina bulb is baked to facilitate the extraction of fermentable sugars. Traditionally, the pina was baked in pits properly lined with rocks. However, in modern times, they are either baked in clay and brick ovens or large stainless steel ovens. Juice Extraction: after baking, the pinas are crushed and shredded to extract the juice (mosto) which is often called honey water. The juice is traditionally extracted with the use of a large stone wheel (tahona) that crushes and squeezes juice off the pina. More recently, a mechanical shredding device is being used to achieve the same purpose. Juice fermentation: the agave juice or honey water is fermented. The juice is mixed with yeast and water in large fermentation tanks. Stainless steel tanks or wooden barrels may be used. Adding tequila: instead of proceeding with distillation (as in tequila), 100% agave Blanco tequila is added. Producing the naturally delicious, and refreshing Margarita wine with 15% alcohol blended with fruit juice.

I will share some of the reviews I have found in some stores. You can just by the words, tell the brilliance of this craft. Some describe it as a contrast between sweet and sour. One customer writes “it’s a total must-have for the summer! Better than a Margarita – a wine that is not quite so sweet, but has all the wonders of a Margarita”. Another one writes “I have tried so many Margaritas but nothing compares to this one”. Judging by the reviews, Flybird Margarita wine is unique and has established itself in the hearts of many.
