I mean, it is quite logical how it occupies the role which it does in human life. Basically, food is a carbon derivative just as man is, and that explains man’s dependence on food for sustenance. Originally, all food was derived from life through plants and animals. With more civilization, man devised ways to cultivate food by simulating life conditions in a laboratory. Sounds great. It meant an exponential increase in the possibility of food production and storage; the world would finally be able to say goodbye to hunger. This technology saw the advent of GMOs, whose safety for human consumption roused many controversies and remained scrutinized. It is safe to conclude that nothing compares to organic, naturally grown food.

It is often said that one of the most fortunate things to happen to Nigerians is Egusi. the primary ingredient required to prepare the Egusi soup, also known as the ‘golden soup.’ The soup serves a greater purpose of unifying the highly diverse Nigeria. It is a staple that cuts across multiple tribes and cultures. We may not always agree on everything, but one view which Nigerians everywhere tend to agree on is the awesomeness of Egusi. It is made from a nationwide grown vegetable with moderate spice and some drops of Yoruba ingenuity. This delicacy happens to be the most popular western food with people from other regions. The most exciting thing about efo riro is the bright colors which array the plate, from the green vegetables to the red and yellow bell peppers, efo riro exudes a feel of beautiful mother earth in one plate.

Eggs are another unique food source. From eggs, the exotic dessert Crème brûlée is prepared. There are several staples for which eggs are a major ingredient—foods such as bread, cake, and many drinks. Without the addition of eggs, most of these foods would not lose their flavor, consistency, texture, or taste, and amazingly, they can be prepared as a stand-alone meal in various forms. Even the by-product – eggshells are useful for manufacturing a variety of products.
