The freshly released Fortnite Blitz mode ups the stakes and decreases the time of these already quick matches, forcing a hard cap of 15 minutes and changing up some of the mechanics to force faster confrontations.

If you love the feel of a Battle Royale match but want to pick up better loot faster and rack up the kills at lightning speed, this is the Season 3 mode you want to try out this week!

Season 3 gets even faster with Blitz Mode!

Blitz Squads in Fortnite’s Limited Time Mode

You’ve got to switch to squads in the Battle Royale mode selector to take advantage of the Blitz limited time event, which isn’t available in solo or duo modes.

The biggest difference with Blitz is that the storm immediately starts shrinking and doesn’t stop throughout the course of the game, rather than closing in at regular intervals like in a standard match. There’s much less time to explore areas on the edge of the map, and trying to pick up any of the weekly challenges will be a lot more difficult in Blitz.

Because you will be herded in closer together at a much faster rate, there is a much higher loot spawn rate, with chests appearing much more frequently in all the usual locations. Rare and higher equipment also spawn more often in those chests, so you will get better gear right away. Likewise, supply drops land much more quickly so you are always well outfitted.

Furthermore, all players harvest at twice the normal speed during a Fortnite Blitz squads match, so it won’t take nearly as long to gather the resources to build structures. At the same time, building and camping isn’t nearly as viable an option, since the storm shrinks at such a rate that you won’t be able to stick around for long. Finally, launch pads spawn more often, so be on the lookout for players in the air!

Essentially, everything is in fast forward here with a Blitz match. All the standard ideas for victory apply, except that the focus will be less on stealth and more on getting an awesome weapon quickly and then taking down everyone fleeing the storm.

The typical psychological games like closing building doors behind you become less important in Blitz mode … unless you are using the remote explosive C4 that was just added to the game. Since there’s so much good loot to be found in Blitz mode, dropping some remote explosives next to a chest – and then leaving the chest untouched – is a sneaky and devious new way to get a kill.

Just hang out nearby (from above, if possible, for a good sniping vantage point) and wait for someone to walk in, then hit detonate. They might survive the remote explosive blast, but they will at least be weakened and easy to take out with a few shots as they run out of the building.
